Rory Freedman is co-author of the wildly famous book Skinny Bitch, a #1 New York Times bestseller that took the publishing world by surprise. In this episode, Rory Freedman talks with Boundless Vegan about her new book titled Beg: A Radical New Way of Regarding Animals. After reading the book, some might say that Beg is like a treatise, a manifesto for animal lovers, and a guide to compassionate living for people who are new to expanding their consciousness about animals, but Freedman really describes it best in her own words. She says that Beg is a “battle cry and a call to arms to animal lovers to be better animal lovers.â€

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that as we’re focused on not eating meat as part of our diets that other things we do, such as taking leisure time out to visit a zoo or attend an animal racing event, can counteract the good intention we might have with maintaining plant-based, compassionate diets. Not everyone chooses a plant-based lifestyle because of the health benefits, but those who may not have thought about animal compassion at first may find benefit to giving it some thought now. As Freedman notes in the interview, there are numerous leisure and entertainment activities that we can engage in that allow us to admire the beauty and prowess of animals while keeping them free from harm.

As you listen to the show, challenge yourself to think about the choices you make when it comes to animals. Does it matter to you whether the animals you see on stage, in a ring, or otherwise outside of their natural habitat were treated properly? And if not, should it?
