Because It Matters

Because It Matters

Saturday Night “Live”

April 20, 2014

I recently got to pinch-hit for one of our program hosts.  And as I thought about how to engage and entertain a different market – I’m usually broadcasting at 7:00 AM on Friday mornings, not 9:00 PM on Saturday night when I went on the air to pinch-hit – I found, thanks to the Public Radio Exchange (PRX), a conversation between the Academy Awarding-winning Actor, Alec Baldwin, and the genius and inspiration for “Saturday Night Live,†Canadian-born Lorne Michaels.

And the piece couldn’t have been better as it explores how “Saturday Night Live†started and how it’s stuck around for nearly 40 years, never growing stale and always bubbling with creative energy.

There are a ton of takeaways in this podcast.  First, enjoy the wit and creative energy of Michaels.  They broke the mold after he hatched, no doubt about that!

Next, listen closely for how they do it.  How do they keep SNL fresh and relevant?  Don’t they ever burn out? For me, how they’ve kept SNL’s “culture†alive and well after all these years is the best part.  That’s because doing just that – keeping yourself and your family, business and friends full of innovative energy and vitality – is one of the biggest challenges – and most important – you’ll tackle.

This piece is another terrific example of what radio is all about.  And it’s something you’re only going to find here on KMUZ.  Enjoy.
