Nobody said it was going to be easy, the Beijing Ducks travelled from the eastearn China to the west of China to take what is now officially theirs.

The Ducks have taken down the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in game 6 of the 2014 CBA Finals 98-88 claiming their second CBA championship in franchise history.

Stephon Marbury played a crucial role but it was Randolph Morris who took home the finals MVP. He finished with a game-high 30 points along with 11 rebounds.

“This is amazing, hard work really pays off. My teammates allowed me to play at a high level. They made me better. I have to give credit to coach Min. All year he told us never give up. And throughout the playoffs we won every series on the road, we never gave up,” says Morris.

Despite missing most of the season, Marbury came back for the playoffs better than ever. In game six Marbury finished with an impressive 28 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Morris believes there was a message behind the Marbury-less regular season.

Morris says, “Stephon Marbury getting hurt made us a better team. He taught us that we don’t have to depend on just Steph to win. We got this one as a team.”

As for Xinjiang, they were just hanging on by a thread. Down 3-1 in the series they were able to win game five in Beijing without one of their import players, James Singleton, forcing the series back to Xinjiang for games six and seven.

Lester Hudson (refused to speak with media throughout the finals) played well. He was the reason Xinjiang was able to survive another day thanks to his 36 point outburst in game five. In game six however, Hudson struggled finishing with 17 points on 7-19 shooting.

A China/USA milestone

Beijing swingman Sun Yue made history on Sunday night becoming the only player to have a NBA championship (Los Angeles Lakers, 2008) and a CBA championship (Beijing Ducks, 2014).

Beijing’s foreign duo

For the Ducks, it’s their second title in three years and for Marbury and Morris it’s two out of the fours years of them being together in Beijing.

The 37-year-old Marbury is locked in for the next two seasons in Beijing while sources indicate that Morris will most likely sign a one-year contract next season.
