Korean coach forces player to tape his mouth shut

February 16, 2014

“If you are not going to talk on the floor then you might as well play with your mouth taped shut.”

That was the message from Ulsan Mobis Phoebus head coach Yoo Jae-hak to Mobis forward Ham Ji-Hoon despite holding a 13-point lead.

The coaching tactic was strange yet effective. Ham did not play with his mouth taped shut, he did however contribute a large role in Mobis’ 84-74 win over Anyang KGC.

The lesson here is simple, Korean coaches have so much control over their Korean players that they can make them do anything. I don’t think former KBL import Ivan Johnson would have been as cooperative to coach Yoo’s request.

Watch the video below and you can see KBL all-star Rod Benson hiding his laughter behind a towel. Benson finished with a game-high 32-points.
