Discussion with Ruger Product Manager about the Red Label, Gunsite Scout and the 10/22′s 50′s Aniversary

November 13, 2013

There is no company that has changed as much as Strum Ruger. From the founders innovation to his unfortunate concealed carry comments to one of the most popular concealed carry brands and from the brink of collapse to the country's largest firearms manufacturer, Ruger has been through some changes.

This week I speak with a Ruger product manager about 3 long guns that show the changes the company has undergone more than any other.

The Ruger Red Label was an American classic over/under until it was canceled 2 years ago... but now it is back. Ruger redesigned it to make it more producable, but they also took the opportunity to improve the quality and handling.
The Gunsite Scout rifle was born from a discussion at Gunsite about how Ruger could bring Col. Cooper's dream to life.
The 10/22 is the one rifle that everyone should own and it has been for 50 years. To celebrate it Ruger could have just come up with a design, slapped a 50th anniversary emblem on it and sold them all, but instead they asked their fans to suggest a design.

In fact the winning design combines aspects of the Gunsite Scout rifle making it a great training tool and Liberty Training Rifle, with an adjustable stock that both plays on the adult lego's aspect of the rifle and the guns ability to grow with a new shooter.

I don't think Ruger is done yet.
