Boise State lacrosse coach Paul Rocchio arrested, dismissed

March 08, 2014

Boise State co-head coach Paul Rocchio was arrested on Friday, March 7 in Meridian after allegedly trying to entice a minor into sex.

Meridian police took 50 year-old Rocchio into custody in Settler’s Park. He now faces the felony charge of enticing children over the internet.

Lacrosse is one of the most popular club sports at Boise State. Rocchio was dismissed from the team when school officials learned about his arrest. His coach bio has already been removed from the team’s website.

However, according to Rocchio’s LinkedIn profile, he has been working as co-head coach for the Boise State Lacrosse team since June 2010. He was an executive in residence for Boise State’s College of Business and Economics.

The lacrosse team has named goalie coach Kevin Kaup and former defensive coach Josh Rude as interim co-head coaches. There has been no mention as to the status of Rocchio’s co-head coach Brian Sanderson. However Sanderson remains listed as head coach on the lacrosse team’s website so it is unlikely he has been officially dismissed from the team.

So far this year the lacrosse team is 1-3, dropping games to Montana State, BYU and Simon Fraser. They won their most recent game against Oregon State 18-6.

The team will look to overcome the distraction as they play Utah Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. on the Lincoln Turf Field.
