On today’s podcast we’ll discuss the following:
▶ General News: U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials said on Wednesday they have been aware since the end of last year of a security breach at the CIA. Less than one percent of WikiLeaks’ CIA files were released in Tuesday’s document dump. FBI Director James Comey warned Wednesday that Americans should not have expectations of “absolute privacy.” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said “I think finishing on tax reform will take longer” than August before it is done.
▶ Economics: Retail closures this year: Macy’s, BCBG, Sears, Kmart, Budgens, JC Penney, American Apparel, HH Gregg, Abercrombie & Fitch, Wet Seal, Crocs, the Limited… and many others… maybe even Gordmans. “We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg” on store closings, says one analyst. Interest rates look like they will continue to go up in March, with Goldman Sachs putting rate hike odds above 90%. Mexican billionaire and retail magnate Hugo Salinas Price says “It’s going to end badly. A lot of wealth is going to disappear. . . . I think, in the U.S. on March 15th, all hell is going to break loose because the U.S. will reach its debt limit.”
▶ Global Issues: The Science and Security Board warned: “The probability of global catastrophe is very high.” They went on to say “It is two and a half minutes to midnight, the Clock is ticking, global danger looms.” I’ll tell you why.
