They believe that healthy students help drive healthy schools, and that healthy schools are at the heart of healthy communities. Founded by Stephen Ritz, a 2015 Top Ten Finalist for the $1m Global Teacher Prize, Green Bronx Machine recently reported a 45% increase in passing rates school-wide on NYS Science Exams, along with a 50% reduction in behavioral incidents and out-of-class time. Stephen's new book, The Power of a Plant is an inspiring story about how incorporating gardening and plants into teaching curriculum moved the graduation rate of students from 17% to 100% and improved attendance to 93% in his South Bronx high school.
