Iwata and the Minds Behind the Industry with Cody and Steve

July 24, 2015

This week on Additional Pylons, Cody and Steve cover a little bit of the news that happened this week:

* Ant-man: We saw Ant-Man and it was awesome. Go see it. Seriously. It's awesome.
* EA Sports: A judge has approved a settlement totaling over $60 million in a lawsuit against EA, the NCAA, and the Collegiate Licensing Company due to the use of the likeness and names of college athletes in the popular NCAA Football and NCAA Basketball franchises. Then the guys get gracious and thankful and talk about the minds that are making the video game industry such a great place to be.

Everyone has a favorite game. Everyone has a favorite studio. Everyone has a favorite developer. Everyone has that one game that really opened their eyes to all of the possibilities that video games had as media and as a possible career path.

Some of our favorites:

* Gabe Newell: The mind behind Valve, Steam, and all of the games that end with the number 2.
* Shigeru Miyamoto: The mind behind all of our favorite Nintendo games. Creative genius and is probably secretly Santa Claus.
* Ken Levine: The mind behind BioShock and some of the greatest storytelling in gaming. On to bigger and better things.
* Tim Schafer: The mind behind some of the most interesting indie titles.
* Todd Howard: The mind behind the Fallout series as we know it. Champion of the Wasteland and all around nicest man on the planet.
* Hideo Kojima: The mind responsible for for countless hours of sneaking around while trying to fight the Russians and giant robots. Off to do his own thing and we're excited to see what happens next.

*Satoru Iwata: December 6, 1959 - July 11, 2015*

The gaming industry lost a true genius and someone who really understood that gaming should be, above everything else, fun. When you tear away the petty arguments of "What console is better" or "Why this game sucks" and all of that arbitrary stuff, Iwata understood that video games should bring people together.

We thank you, Satoru Iwata, for bringing us years of enjoyment and reminding us why we started playing video games in the first place.
