A review of Milagro Theatre’s production of Luis Mario Moncada Gil’s Opción Múltiple 

The 1957 film The Three Faces of Eve stars Joanne Woodward as a woman divided: Eve White, Eve Black, and Jane. Under psychiatrist Dr. Luther’s care, Eve White goes in pursuit of the traumatic events that led to her existential split. While it displays many of the same characteristics (the hypnotizing psychiatrist, an obscured, fracturing event) Milagro Theatre’s Opción Múltiple two-ups Mrs. White with a five-personality divide. Diana is a woman who has spawned four additional faces and personalities. Unlike the Hollywood film, however, each personality gets a performer. Also unlike the film, James and guest co-host Rebecca Jacobson notice some dissociative identity disorder in the form of the telling. It’s a little Three’s Company, a little Long Day’s Journey, and, thankfully, a little…Murphy bed?
