What about cooking, how do I plan my meals

How do I protect myself from wildlife and insects

Do different destinations require different planning

Winton Porter has been promoting and supporting activities in the great outdoors for most of his life.  At 21 he opened his own business producing hiking sticks for retailers throughout the southeast.  He has managed the operations of REI in several cities around the US.

But, the story literally really started when at 35 he converted his 401K into a great business opportunity and purchased a hiking supply store  in North Georgia.

When Winton purchased the store at the southern end of the Appalachian Trail he combined his lifelong love of the outdoors, natural born storyteller and businessman.  Now called the Guru of the Appalachian Trail, he is a helping hand to weary hikers at Mountain Crossings.  He has been telling the stories of hikers lives and adventures since then.  And, if you would love to hear some of those stories…..and he has lots of them, listen to our show on Saturday where he will share some of those stories from his book Just Passing Thru.
