The 1001 Nights Podcast

Night 23: Story by Micah Dean Hicks

October 21, 2015

In night twenty-three of the 1001 Nights Podcast, we bring you our third tale from chapter four, the Story of the Humpback. This is a winding chapter of coincidences in which multiple parties believe they are responsible for killing a humpbacked man, who in reality choked on a fish-bone. All parties come before a king and are each asked to tell a story that’s “more wonderful and strange and exciting” than the story of the humpback’s many deaths.

The third of these strange and exciting stories is told tonight, with the entirety of “The Story of the Barber of Baghdad,” reinterpreted by Micah Dean Hicks. Micah is a Calvino Prize-winning author of fabulist fiction. His story collection, Electricity and Other Dreams, was recently published and received a starred review from Publishers Weekly.
