Domestic Violence and the Gabby Petito Case

October 14, 2021

Welcome to Episode 6 of the Wright Family Law Divorce Podcast! 22 year old Gabby Petito was found strangled to death on September 19, 2021 in Wyoming.  The investigation surrounding her murder goes on but it is well-settled that domestic violence is a preventable and widespread public health problem.   It does not discriminate with regard to race, age, income, sexual orientation, religion or gender. The Gabby Petito case has captured public attention over the past 2 months due in large part to social media and the suspicion surrounding her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. The 22-year-old vanished while on a cross-country expedition with  Laundrie, age 23. Gabby's family last heard from her on Aug. 30, two days before Laundrie returned home without her.  In this episode Ellen Wright discusses the Gabby Petito case and the larger issues surrounding domestic violence with guests Jenessa Dailey and Celeste Johnson.  Jenessa is a social worker and mental health counselor in Massachusetts and Celeste is a social worker and case management administrator working with families in crisis in Pennsylvania.  Among the topics in this episode are discussed are warning signs and redflags, interventions, family court issues and mental health awareness.  Domestic Violence National Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE Resources for Massachusetts Residents: SAFELINK 877-785-2020 is a hotline that provides information, resources, safe house information regarding domestic violence or dating violence.
