Dr. Hadiya Sewer joins the show to discuss some of her work with the Virgin Islands Studies Collective and the St. John Heritage Collective.

"On St. John I spoke a great deal about radical imaginaries and thinking critically about a geneology of VI thought, and understanding that if we trace the ways in which Virgin Islanders have thought and organized over the span of history we start to see that we have a very robust and cohesive set of ideologies, and they're critically concerned with questions of freedom, of justice, of humanity. Questions of race, class, gender in the Americas, but really also on continental Africa and the globe more broadly speaking."

"What happens at the moment, for some of us, when we realize that we cannot continue this intentional process of forgetting, that we do have to remember that this lack of autonomy burns at our core a bit, and that we desire something better, something greater, something with a great deal more sovereignty?"

Dr. Sewer also addressed some questions about the new administration on the VI, the Federal government shutdown's effect on St. John, and the impact of climate change in the VI.
