Hydration & Emotional Health: Two Key Factors for Losing Weight

August 10, 2015

Proper hydration is key for successful weight loss.Proper hydration is key for successful weight loss. That doesn't mean that you can drink five cups of coffee or an energy drink and call it "hydration." Water is the best source of hydration your body can get. Drinking water between meals will curb hunger and cravings. Oftentimes, when you get that hunger pang, a tall glass of water will calm it in no time. There's a biochemical aspect to the hydration/weight loss link as well. If your kidneys are properly hydrated, your liver will be better able to do its job in terms of detoxification and metabolizing fats. But, make sure you're drinking either purified water or distilled water. There are so many harmful chemicals in tap water, you're only doing your body a disservice.  Another key factor in losing weight and keeping it off is your spiritual and/or emotional health. Being stressed, lonesome, or overwhelmed can lead to eating to comfort yourself. Meditation is a great way to overcome some of these obstacles. You'll learn to choose life-enhancing habits, rather than self-destructing ones.  Listen in as The Healthy Self host, Michael Schwartz, and special guest, Susan Smith Jones, discuss these two key factors in successful weight loss.
