READING: ACTS 18:1-11
After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.
When Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself exclusively to preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. But when they opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, ‘Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.’

Then Paul left the synagogue and went next door to the house of Titius Justus, a worshipper of God. Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard Paul believed and were baptised.

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.’ So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.
REFLECTION
The story of God’s mission through Paul and his team throughout Acts just gets better and better! Imagine Paul’s emotions as he was going from place to place, city to city, house to house, telling people about Jesus and seeing people saying “Yes” to the good news. What a feeling it must have been.

What really strikes me about this passage is that someone comes to faith in a home! They don’t come to faith at a massive Christian festival, not in some vast auditorium, but in a simple home. This reminds me that God works and moves in the ordinary, in the every day.

A few years ago I was biking through Holland and a bumped into a guy called Christoph. He was not having a good time and life was not going well for him. After biking with him for a day and took him out for a meal. The restaurant was nothing special, just an ordinary bar with fairly nice food! During the meal he opened up, shared his life and asked me what I thought was the meaning of life. What a question! So with trepidation and fear I told him about Jesus. At that moment Christoph told me that he now knew the meaning of life and wanted to follow Jesus. We prayed, he got a Bible and headed off. How amazing was that! I was amazed! This incredible transformation did not happen at a Christian conference with an awesome evangelist, this happen in a bar somewhere in Holland with muggins here…This happened in the ordinary!

So whatever, you are doing today, don’t be afraid, don’t be silent because He is with you. So as you’re listening to people today, sharing their life…why not share your story of Jesus and see what happens because Jesus works in the ordinary.
PRAY
A Prayer for today…Lord Jesus, thank you that you work in and through the ordinary. Help me not to be afraid of sharing the good new. Help me to speak up about your love and grace to those that a meet today. Amen.
