The Phantom of the Opera (1925) – SSP082
Celebrating the 97th anniversary of it’s release, Greg has chosen the 1925 silent film “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney, for our viewing pleasure this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while enjoying a “Red Death Halloween Cocktail“. Greg found the recipe below on cravingsomecreativity.com.
Red Death Halloween Cocktail
• 5 oz Coca-Cola. Pepsi and Diet cola varieties also work.
• 1 1/2 Tbsp Grenadine
• 1/2 oz rum
• 2 maraschino cherries
• 1 cocktail pick
• 1 oz raspberry liqueur
Instructions:
- Chill all ingredients in the refrigerator prior to layering.
- Measure and add grenadine in the bottom of the glass.
- Measure out the raspberry liqueur with a jigger. Using the back of a spoon placed against the glass rim, slowly pour the raspberry liqueur over the spoon into the glass. Repeat with the rum and then the Cola.
- Garnish with two maraschino cherries on a cocktail pick.
A Brief Synopsis: A grotesquely disfigured composer known as “The Phantom” haunts Paris’ opera house, where he’s secretly grooming Christine Daae to be an opera diva. Luring her to his remote underground lair, The Phantom declares his love. But Christine loves Raoul de Chagny and plans to elope with him. When The Phantom learns this, he abducts Christine.
