I start out this week’s podcast by talking about a statistic that I saw and posted on our Facebook and Twitter this week. I read that 80% of jobs are not advertised. I’ve been in a lot of your classrooms in the last few months, talking about networking, specifically looking for employment through your social networking. I also talked about this at the Day of Transition 2013. Jobs that aren’t advertised are called “the hidden job market” and the way that you access these jobs is through networking.

In the main portion of this episode, I talk about why you should work while you are in school. When we are in the schools and meeting with you, or at IEP meetings, we often hear students say that they are not working or looking for work because they want to focus on school. In this episode, I explain that working while you are in school is a good idea, whether you are going on to college after high school, or if you will be entering the world of work.
