It’s easy to make fun of paranormal investigators and their flawed methods, hell, I’ve built an entire podcast off of that concept but that’s just superficial. What I really aim to do is understand what’s wrong with their thinking and what cognitive deficiencies they exploit to further their beliefs. In past episodes I’ve discussed confirmation bias, the science of ghost and physiological phenomena just as sleep paralysis, all of which give plausible, naturalistic explanations for paranormal experiences and in this episode we’re going to look at another cognitive bias called the illusion of cause.
