What is your Dream Disney Job?

Hey everyone, I’m Mike, she’s Sophie, that’s Brenda, and he’s Grogu, and we’re On the Road with Mickey! This is episode 220 and this week our feature topis is “Tips for getting the most out of your Summer Trip to Disney! In this episode, we are sharing our tips on having an incredible summer trip to Walt Disney World! Here’s what we talked about:

  • Cheddar from the Big Cheese:
    • Mike: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has an opening date released! June 28th is when it will be open for park Guests!
    • Sophie: Sigourney Weaver of Alien and Avatar fame is in discussions to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu!
    • Brenda: Disney’s Animal Kingdom welcomed a very rare baby Addax to their herd, just in time for Mother’s Day. This is very important because there are less than 100 addax left in the wild and just over 180 in managed care organizations, so this is a very big deal. His name is Julien and his mom is Juniper!

  • Listener Feedback: Dream Disney Job
    • Pam has this in mind: “I would like to design magical vacations from home or be a VIP tour guide doing the same thing on property”
    • Cindy H. chimed in with this: “I have some retail experience, so I think I’d like to work at one of the smaller stores. Not the Emporium or any of the other huge, chaotic stores. Maybe something like the Frontier Trading Post or Star Traders.”
    • Cindy G. said this: “I want to be the Imagineer who test rides all the roller coasters, I want to be the giraffe keeper and I want to be a character (maybe Bashful the dwarf since I am too Tall to be Daisy). Those 3 should keep me busy and out of trouble”
    • Chrissy said: “Booking vacations for guests or design rides and costumes for Villains land.”
    • Chandler said: “Ticket Taker or whatever that role is called. Welcoming people and all the little kiddos into MK or any Park and seeing all the joy and anticipation of what was in store would be my magical experience.”
    • Cat said: “In Tri Circle D taking care of all the trolley & parade horses and ponies”
    • Robin said: “Working as a resort hostess.”
    • John said: “Well, I worked for Disney at EPCOT as a tech demo for IBM and worked in the retail store. If I was to do it again, I would like to do something behind the scenes, in the Living Sea with the animals or at Animal Kingdom.”

  • Feature Topic: Tips for getting the most out of your Summer Trip to Disney!
    • During June, July, and August, the average temperatures in WDW is a high of 91 in June, 92 in July, and 92 in August. The average rainfall is a little over 7” each month. What that tells us is that the summer months are hot and wet!
    • Take advantage of the indoor rides that have air conditioning. Some examples: It’s a small world, Peter Pan.
    • Carry a hand fan with you.
    • Recommend buying Genie+ if you can. It will help with line control.
    • Individual lightning lane purchases.
    • Take a midday break at the pool.
    • Sticking it out when people are going back to their resorts may cut down on the lines.
    • Wait to ride big ticket rides for times when parades or fireworks are going on.
    • Touch something cold to your wrist or the back of your neck – for whatever reason it cools you down.
    • Take advantage of free ice water from the restaurants, and water bottle fountains throughout the park
    • Learn the My Disney Experience, it has a lot of data to help you manage your day.
    • Park management – look at what parks will be least crowded on which days.
    • Early entry – only open Tomorrowland and Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom for early entry.
    • Clothing: Moisture-wicking clothing, quick dry shirts. Brenda and Sophie wear flip-flops. Bring a dry pair of socks in a baggie if you wear sneakers because if your socks get wet you’ll be miserable.
    • Sunscreen – even on your legs
    • Hats, sunglasses
    • Spritzers that will mist you
    • Rain ponchos, don’t leave when it rains. Think about a using an umbrella instead
    • Plan your eating times for the heat of the day.
    • Be flexible, give grace.
    • Disney Rash. Very itchy, very red, ice it as much as you can to help with the discomfort. It won’t go away until after you get home. It’s not serious, it’s about mitigating the discomfort.

  • This Day in Disney History for May 20:

  • Disney Who’s Who Character
    • Judy Hopps from Zootopia

  • A little bit of Walt
    • “The whole thing here is the organization. Whatever we accomplish belongs to our entire group, a tribute to our combined effort. Look at Disneyland. That was started because we had the talents to start it, the talents of the organization. And our World’s Fair shows – what we did was possible only because we already had the staff that had worked together for years, blending creative ideas with technical know-how.” – Walt Disney
