The Runic Series: ” The Rune Jera, Ger, Ar”

July 05, 2016

The Rune we are dealing with today is called Jera in the Elder Futhark, Ger in the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, and Ar in the Younger and Armanen Rune sytemss.

This Rune is often overlooked as one simply talking about "harvest time" (which it does talk about in its most mundane essence) but it is also the Rune of the eternal cycle. In the 1st row we talked about a Rune called Gebo or Gyfu which represented the gift for a gift principle. The Rune we are talking about today is the "sowing and reaping" principle on the scale of the multi-verse and the human being. Patience is one of the lessons that this Rune teaches, as there is always a period of time that passes between the sowing of the seed, the growing of the desired plant, and the final harvest of the crop. It is the Rune that discusses birth, life, death, and rebirth – – the cycles that continue as a part of natural law. We can see this in the human being where our actions (Orlog) are planted into the well of Wyrd and eventually are woven out of that well by the Norns into our experience! Even the world tree itself is subjects to the law of the cycles as we hear of in the stories of Ragnarok and the rebirth into the new cycle that takes place after the massive destruction. The gods and the goddesses cannot escape the cycles, and neither can we! There is also a tremendous Vanic energy involved with this Rune and a link to Freyr indicated in the Rune poems. The gods and goddesses of the Vanir are the gods and goddesses of the cycles so there is little wonder of this influence within this runic power. We cannot escape the cycle that this Rune represents, but we can change the type of harvest that we will receive if we heed and pay attention to what Orlog individually and collectively, we are dropping into the well of Wyrd.

Until next time...
