Noodling Around

May 12, 2023

If you've never heard of noodling...

More with Tess Maune, award winning journalist from the CBS affiliate in Tulsa, KOTV. Tess specializes in outdoor and wildlife reporting and she puts her money where her mouth is. She hunts everything! She fishes and is also a noodler. A what?

Noodling is not new, believe it or not. It was not created by some crazy guy who uttered "hold my beer" before sticking his hand in a dark underwater hole. Also known as hand-fishing, noodling has been around since the late 1700s and is the technique of grabbing catfish during spawning out of a rock hole with your "bare" hands. Tess describes the finer points of noodling to us as well as sharing the largest catfish she has ever noodled (it was almost as big as she is).

We also talked hunting feral hogs, deer rutting, field dressing and then of course, eating and preparing the meat.

Hunting is a way of limiting the population of animals that can be invasive and damaging to the environment like feral hogs or creating a healthier and disease-free existence for the rest of the herd.

Listen to today's episode and learn more than you could ever imagine about wildlife as we finish our conversation with Tess Maune.
