Masters Milers

Sascha Scott

My guest on the latest episode of the Masters Milers podcast is Sascha Scott. We recorded this conversation a few weeks after Sascha won the Masters Championships at the USATF Club National Cross Country meet. I love talking to people like Sascha. As you will hear in our conversation, Sascha played a bunch of different sports growing up and initially went to college on a softball scholarship. She ended up transferring schools and decided to switch to track and field where she became an All-American in the 400m hurdles. In her late-30s, she was diagnosed with osteo-arthritis in her knees, so she now only runs every other day. But she complements her running by competing in masters swimming and cyclo-cross events. She is a perfect example of someone who has had great success competing as a masters athlete by adapting to her circumstances. When she was diagnosed with arthritis, she didn’t curse fate and give up on running. Instead she figured out a way to modify her training and still have great success and enjoyment from the sport. Having kids and a career and dealing with limitations due to injury is something many of us masters athletes can identify with and Sascha seems to have figured out an approach that works really well for her. It was great talking to her and I hope you enjoy our conversation.
