Our guest on this episode is debut novelist Janice Hallett, author of The Sunday Times crime book of the year The Appeal. A crime novel with a difference, the book consists of a series of documents inviting you to solve the crime as you discover the plot. Janice tells us about how we shouldn’t forget about the horror of some crimes when reading crime fiction, and gives us a peek into the writing of her upcoming second novel, The Twyford Code.

Hattie and Isaac also caught up with Ann from Yateley Library to talk about her book recommendation, The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. Stifled and misunderstood by her husband and father-in-law, Alice Wright yearns for escape and finds it in defiant Margery O’Hare and the sisterhood bringing books to the isolated and vulnerable of 1930s Kentucky.
