Are there subtle ways to use language and mannerisms to control other people? Marketers and politicians certainly believe so.

In this episode, I take a closer look at an aspect of something called NLP, or, Neuro Linguistic Programming. In particular, I'll be talking about a practice know as "miming". This is when you copy certain things that another person is doing in order to establish rapport with them and, in theory, gain control over them.

I don't believe it's that black and white, but there is definitely something to be said for it. Smile, and others will often smile back. Yawn, and others will often unconsciously mimic you. But why?

When you look at groups of people who all dress in the same clothes, or use the same slang, is there more to it than just trying to fit in? And if there is more to it, can knowledge of the truth give you an unfair advantage over your fellow man?
