"Celebrate" with Scott Friedman

April 12, 2014

In this conversation with Scott Friedman we talk about motivation, humour, employee engagement, customer experience, customer service, management, culture as well as the Foundation “Together We Can Change the Worldâ€.

Scott Friedman was introduced to me by previous guest, Kevin Cottam and as you can see, Scott and I covered a lot of ground during our chat.  No doubt any Managers, Leaders or Employers out there will be fascinated to hear Scott’s take on how to ensure you create more employee engagement and therefore by default, a greater customer experience.  It certainly resonated with me as we discussed the fact that people are looking for connection. To feel like they love their job and they are doing meaningful work.  It makes sense that you feel most valued and engaged when you believe the work you are doing has a purpose.  Have you ever done something (or asked someone else to do something), when you are not really sure why?

As Scott says “where you put your focus, you tend to get your resultsâ€

Anyone interested in training, learning or speaking may enjoy the part of our conversation in which we discuss the pivotal moment that started Scott on his way to becoming a Motivational Humourist and how to make an impact.  Of course, you have no doubt heard that public speaking ranks highly on people lists of greatest fears.  In fact you may be thinking it yourself.  Listen as Scott tells you how he mastered his craft.

He also shared a story of his hero, legendary host of the Tonight Show, Johnny Carson and the anxieties he faced each night before heading out on stage.

I think this quote that Scott shares from Ralph Waldo Emerson is worth highlighting -

“Do the thing you fear the most and the death of fear is certainâ€

If the above was not enough, Scott shares some details about the Foundation that he co-founded as a means to make a difference and to give back to the area and community  in which he lives and makes his living.  “Together we can Change the World†has a mission to create sustainability and to reduce poverty throughout South East Asia.

Scott Friedman talks of creating a “perfect world†and of course this can sound very grand and out of reach, however when I asked him to explain his perception of a perfect world and how we may achieve it, his response brought it back to reality.

“Creating the perfect world is achieved by focusing on purpose and values, not on circumstances and emotionsâ€.

Together we can bring more joy and less hassle.

Now that to me is what creating connections that count is all about.  What do you think?
