Staying True to the Creativity with Gareth Davies-Jones

February 10, 2014

Gareth Davies-Jones is a musician and singer of songs.  In my conversation with Gareth we discuss how his first job was a means to an end.  That end was his first guitar.  Writing his first song at 15 Gareth, knew this was what he wanted to do.  However like many of us, "the real world" kicked in for a while and it was put on hold as he put down his guitar.

I really enjoyed discussing the creative process with Gareth, and what works for him.  Calling himself a "terrible hoarder" of ideas (which to me actually sounded like he was a very good hoarder), Gareth explains this gives him the opportunity and time to ensure there is "proper mining of the experiences we have".  It also confirmed to me that we are all different and that it is important for us to understand our own approach to things.  You will hear this as Gareth explains how he needs to work in the "absence of distractions".

Whether you are musician or not there is a beauty to the gift of storytelling and Gareth shares many lessons and tips throughout our conversation that can be applied to various aspects of our life.  From avoiding the trap of constantly comparing yourself to others, to you should never stop learning and staying true to the creativity, Gareth sums up with fact that you should just start.  Go and create your "art" and most importantly, be yourself.
