Jon Holmes on wearing a lot of hats

January 29, 2014

Jon Holmes is an award winner broadcaster, writer, comedian and presenter.  Currently the host of the morning show on XFM Radio and a regular on BBC Radio 4 on programs like "The Now Show", Jon admits "I do wear a lot of hats".  So how much work is involved in making it look like you are flying by the seat of your pants?  Jon Holmes shares how his inability to do anything practical as a kid, like change an alternator in a car or even to hold an expensive brick hammer on a building site did not stop him from mastering his craft.

Jon explains how "you are never off duty and your brain is always looking for an angle on things...", answers whether he gets nervous when speaking to some of the incredible guests he has on his show, and points how you will know the interview is not going well if you hear him utter the words "so tell me about your film..."

As I am like Jon in my inability to do anything practical (I am not sure I even know what an alternator in a car actually is, and certainly couldn't explain what it does, other than maybe that it alternates), I agree that this does not stop you from mastering your craft.  Be persistent, knock on a lot of doors and be resilient if and when you hear the word "no".

What are you mastering?
