Episode #13: The Most Important Part of Teaching is Listening (and it’s the best path to successful community engagement)

March 09, 2021

Throughout March, Gastro Broadcast is featuring a series of conversations to promote Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Awareness Month. This week, Kevin Harlen talks with Dr. Linda Rae Murray of the University of Illinois Chicago about community outreach and ways to reduce disparities in CRC screening.

Kevin and Dr. Murray discuss Project Brotherhood, an innovation program in Chicago to increase health awareness around screening and testing in Black men by providing preventive health messages in "a safe, respectful place where Black men felt comfortable just being themselves."

Join Kevin and Dr. Murray as they discuss her path in medicine and public health advocacy. Don't miss the exceptional advice Dr. Murray has for young people who want to be a physician or work in public health and what GI practices can do to help students achieve their goals.
