June 11, 2014
Summary:

It’s the busiest sports week of the year, with the Belmont Stakes, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Final, Baseball, Arena Football, the US Open and the World Cup all in action. Even our teams that aren’t playing are making some news. It’s good to be a sports fan. And It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 40:27

1Q: World Cup Kicks Off in Brazil

  • The tables are set.
  • ESPN’s coverage, predictions of the enormity of this event
  • Apps available to track the games
  • Team USA in Group G with Germany, Portugal and Ghana.
  • USA Coach Jurgen Klinsmann does not understand why USA sports franchises reward players for past performance with big contracts.
  • He defends his decision to leave star midfielder Landon Donovan off this year’s squad due to his inconsistent motivation and performance.

2Q: Gladiators Bounce Back in a Big Way

  • The Gladiators did not hang their heads after their 1st loss of the year. They bounced back with a record-setting performance by throttling Iowa 86-49.
  • Starting QB Shane Austin threw for 218 yards and 7 TDs
  • WR/DB Collin Taylor had 5 catches for 49 yards and 3 TDs plus an INT
  • Glads led 51-21 at half time. Wow.
  • They host the New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday at the Q.

3Q: Indians hit the road

  • They are hot like the weather right now. Just went 3-1 in four games against Texas.
  • First time winning back-to-back road games this season.
  • Prior to this trip, they were the best in AL at home, they are worst in MLB on the road.
  • Lonnie was on fire on Monday. His 3HR+9RBI night set a franchise record. The 9RBI tied him with Chris James (1991 against Oakland).

4Q: Cavs Missed on Calipari

  • Dan Gilbert was hot on the heels of Kentucky HC John Calipari.
  • Reportedly offering him a 7 year, $60M+ deal to become President and Head Coach with full control over basketball operations. ESPN put it at $80M/10 yrs.
  • Calipari turned us down last week and agree to a 7 year, $52M extension with UK.
  • Now reportedly looking at Mark Price, Tyron Lue and Alvin Gentry, as well as Tel Aviv Head Coach David Blatt.
  • Gilbert is all over the map on this one.
  • No free agent will come to a team with this much inconsistency at the top.
  • FA Kevin Love has already said he has no interest coming to Cleveland.
