GameTime Cleveland 190: March Madness
How are your brackets? Chances are, not too good after a wild first week of Men’s Tournament play in the NCAA. We’ll talk about the Sweet 16 and some Browns news. Plus the Indians get ready for the season opener. Can it possibly be time for the baseball season already? It’s GameTime!
Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic
Running Time: 45:05
1Q: Busted Brackets Everywhere
Down to the Sweet 16
Can you call these teams ‘Cinderellas’ when there really isn’t a dominant team in college basketball?
The freshman “stars†are all home. Jabari Parker (Duke), Joel Embiid (Kansas), Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
Ohio State, Duke, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, UMass all fall in 1st round
Wichita State, UNC, Villanova, Kansas, Syracuse can’t get out of 2nd round
2Q: Sweet 16
There should be some good games this week.
SOUTH
#1 Florida v #4 UCLA
#10 Stanford v #11 Dayton
EAST
#1 Virginia v #4 Michigan State
#3 Iowa State v #7 UConn
WEST
#1 Arizona v #4 SDSU
#2 Wisconsin v #6 Baylor
MIDWEST
#4 Louisville v #8 Kentucky
#2 Michigan v #11 Tennessee
3Q: NFL Owners Meetings
A couple of vet QBs changed teams last week.
Browns signed a veteran OL from the Seahawks on Monday.
Team seemed to be absent from QB Pro Days (Farmer was there for Bortles). Big deal or no?
Matt Schaub traded to Oakland for 6th rd pick.
Michael Vick signed with NY Jets.
Mark Sanchez released by Jets. Looks like he’ll sign with Philly, though the Browns were rumored to be interested.
4Q: Indians Spring Training
Team ended contract discussions with Justin Masterson. He was looking for $17M/yr range. Indians were offering closer to $12M.
That’s a lot for a guy who hasn’t won 15 games in a season. But he is still our top pitcher and an innings eater.
Michael Bourn will start the season on the DL with his hamstring injury.
Team told Aaron Harang he will not make the big league roster. He was signed to minor league deal and given a shot to compete for 5th starter.
Season opener is Monday, March 31st on the road at Oakland. Home Opener is Friday April 4th against Minnesota.
Tribe was 92-70 last year after winning their last 10 games in a row and going 21-6 in September. They can’t repeat that.
Key departures: Ubaldo Jimenez, Scott Kazmir, Chris Perez, ??
Key additions:
John Axford
David Murphy (batting .179 in Spring) – will he platoon with Ryan Rayburn in RF?
