February 26, 2014
Summary:

Who says the NFL off season is boring? The Browns made huge news again. This time, Jimmy Haslam cleaned house in the front office, firing both CEO Joe Banner and General Manager Mike Lombardi. This sent shockwaves through the NFL. We’ll discuss the moves and look at what the Cavs may have in store before this week’s trading deadline comes to pass. Not to be left out, the Boys of Summer are in Goodyear and the Indians made news with the signings of some of their players. It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 44:36

1Q: Browns Front Office Shocker

  • Jimmy Haslam shocks us all by firing Banner AND Lombardi

  • Banner and Lombardi were competing for power. Haslam saw this in the hiring process for the Head Coach position and from feedback he was getting from others.

  • HARBAUGH – rumors that the Browns tried to trade picks for him.

  • Bill Parcells consulted for feedback. Ken Whisenhunt and others spoke of organizational structure and problems. Haslam finally saw what was happening.

2Q: Farmer and Pettine

  • The Scouting Combine is this week. how quickly can the new duo get on the same page

  • Farmer told that his job as GM is to make the coach successful. Too bad Banner didn’t see it this way.

  • Carlos Hyde had a disappointing performance, running slowly before pulling up with a hammy issue. Scored only a 9 on the Wonderlic and reportedly did not do well in team interviews.

  • Sammy Watkins looked good. Manziel ran fastest of the top QBs. Bridgewater did not do any throwing or drills.

3Q: Cavs at the Break

  • Acting GM David Griffin was rumored to be in discussions for a lot of deals, but only pulled off the trade for Spencer Hawes.

  • Hawes helps give us a big man (double double average) with Wild Thing injured.

  • Kyrie and Dion at the All Star weekend

4Q: Spring Training Underway

  • Ubaldo is officially gone. Now an Oriole. The Indians never really wanted him back and weren’t going to pay him for a long term deal. He was too inconsistent while here. And his late season winning streak came against some weaker opponents, so there was a feeling that his great finish was somewhat of a mirage.

  • Justin Masterson and Indians avoid arbitration. Masterson signs a one year deal worth $9.8M.

  • Team signs LF Michael Brantley to 4 year $25M contract.

  • Indians won arbitration against Josh Tomlin and Vinnie Pestano. They avoided arbitration with Masterson and

  • Team signed former Red righty Aaron Harang to minor league deal. He is expected to compete for 5th spot in rotation.

  • Team also talking to Jason Kipnis about a new contract. They own his arbitration rights until 2015.
