GameTime Cleveland 184: SuperBowl Lineup Is Set

January 23, 2014
Summary:

The Browns coaching search nears it’s end while the teams that will play in the snow in New York in two weeks is now known. We’ll recap the AFC/NFC Championship games and talk about where the Browns are in their pursuit of their 15th head coach. It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 47:18

1Q: AFC Championship Game

  • AFC: Broncos 26, Patriots 16

    • What a difference one game makes. Peyton was getting a lot of criticism for his playoff record. Winning changes everything.

    • Brady was off target most of the day. He’s taking a lot of heat from Boston media afterwards for his post 2005 playoff record.

2Q: NFC Championship Game

  • NFC: Seahawks 23, 49ers 17

    • Calen Kaepernick had three turnovers, including the one that sealed the game in the last minute as he threw a pick in the end zone.

    • A game of two top defenses.

    • Sadly, no one is talking about the game after Richard Sherman’s post-game antics.

3Q: Browns Coaching Search

  • Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam wrote a letter to fans asking for patience. Ironically, Chud would have appreciated a little more patience.

  • Neither of the reported front runners when this began (McDaniels and Gase) want to be considered for the opening.

  • Browns looking everywhere to find takers. Seahawks DC Dan Quinn seems very interested, but are the Browns willing to wait two more weeks? They are getting antsy.

  • They interviewed Buffalo DC Mike Pettine for a second time on Tuesday night but did not make an offer. If he was their top choice, they wouldn’t have told him to wait while they complete other interviews.

  • Browns get a 6th Pro Bowler as S TJ Ward was named to replace Steelers Troy Palamalu. The Pro Bowl draft is being held Wednesday night. Jerry Rice and Deon Sanders are picking teams. No more AFC vs NFC this year.

4Q: Baseball owners approve expanded replay

  • Expanded replay will be in use for the 2014 season.

  • This was long overdue. Most plays can now be challenged.

  • Manager will have one challenge per game.

  • He can get a 2nd challenge if 1st one is upheld.

  • Umpires control initiation of replay after the 7th inning.

  • Home runs can still be reviewed by Umps, not requiring manager to use his challenge.
