GameTime Cleveland 183: NFL Final Four

January 14, 2014
Summary:

The Browns’ search for a head coach continues into its third week. Candidates are dropping like flies. The NFL gets down to it’s Final Four and there are no surprises for a change. The Cavs get embarrassed in Sacramento. What can be done to fix this team? Is it time to just tank it? It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 38:51

1Q: Browns Coaching Search

  • Only two coaching vacancies remain open – Cleveland and Minnesota.

  • All of the candidates the Browns have interviewed have either withdrawn or taken a position elsewhere.

  • Since Seattle is still alive in the playoffs, we won’t know if Dan Quinn is an option (he already interviewed) or if Denver OC Gase wants to talk to us.

  • A report over the weekend said that candidates were calling Chud to get the lowdown on the Browns front office. ESPN NFL Insiders have termed our situation “toxicâ€. Wonderful.

  • No matter who they end up hiring, they’ll tell us it was who they wanted all along.

  • Will a young coach with no previous HC experience be able to build a respectable coaching staff as all of the other teams are busy filling their own needs?

  • Don’t worry. We’ll have giant new scoreboards at the stadium this Fall!!! Woo Hoo!

2Q: AFC Divisional Playoffs

  • No surprises in round 2 as both home teams advanced.

  • Patriots crush the Colts 43-22.

    • Patriots win with ZERO TD passes from Brady. All scores on the ground.

    • LeGarrette Blount led the way with rushing 4 TDs.

    • Brady only 13/25 and 198 yds passing.

    • Andrew Luck threw his 7th INT in the playoffs (3 vs KC, 4 vs NE) against nine all season.

  • Broncos handled the Chargers 24-17.

    • Chargers woke up too late with a TD and an onside kick recovery. They made it close, but not close enough.

    • Peyton’s playoff record improves to 10-11. His legacy is being questioned by many. Just a great regular season QB?

    • Manning “only†threw for 230 yds on 25/36 passing with 2 TDs and a pick.

    • Rivers was 18/27 for 217 yds and 2 TDs.

    • Broncos unable to rush (65 yds)

  • Sets up another Peyton/Brady battle for the rights to go to the SuperBowl.

3Q: NFC Divisional Playoffs

  • Seahawks beat Saints 23-15.

    • Ridiculous, poorly executed last play involved a forward lateral when they could have just gone out of bounds to stop the clock. Payton being too cute again?

    • Pretty boring game. Beast mode was the best player on this day.

    • Russell Wilson 9/18 for 103 yds.

    • Marshawn Lynch rushed 28 times for 140 and 2 TDs.

  • 49ers beat Carolina 23-10.

    • Physical game. They beat up on Cam Newton and broke his will.

    • Too much fighting and show boating in this one. Kaepernick mocking Newton’s SuperMan TD move. Just play football.

    • Their reward is a trip to the toughest place to play right now (Seattle).

  • 49ers vs. Seahawks should be another slugfest.

4Q: Cavs blown out on the road

  • Cavs are 13-24. They play the 14-23 LA Lakers tonight. Blech.

  • A 44 point loss to the Kings on Sunday, losing 124-80. How low can we go?

  • Kyrie missed 11 of 14 shots.

  • Time to tank like everybody else?

  • What can be done to fix this team?
