#003: Michael Sam, Champ Bailey Cut | Oakland A's Struggles | Patriots Trade Mankins | Wes Welker Concussion

September 02, 2014

CLNS Radio Content Manager Sean Bakke joins host Brian Langford and the sports podcast industry will never be the same again! In episode 3 of the re-vamped Evening Score Sports Podcast, Bakke and Langford dive into a variety of topics.

Brian and Sean dedicate this episode to friend and fellow podcaster, Alex Mazzolini who passed away earlier this week. They both pay tribute to AEM to start of this week's show. Also discussed:

In the first episode of the re-vamped Evening Score Sports Podcast, Langford and Bakke broke down the trade that sent Jon Lester to the Oakland A's. Since then (as of this recording) the team has gone 12-15 and Lester was defeated 4-0 by the Los Angeles Angels, whom have taken over the lead in the AL West. Did Billy Beane make a mistake in trading his cleanup hitter Yoenis Cespedes in lieu of improving an already strong rotation?

The NFL mandated that the rosters had to be at 53 by Saturday at 4pm. Langford and Bakke discuss if they were surprised by any cuts, revisited the possibility of the St. Louis Rams trading for the Patriots' Ryan Mallett (who has since been traded to the Houston Texans) and the legacy of Champ Bailey, whom was cut by the New Orleans Saints.

Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL player, was cut by the Rams on Saturday. Will he catch on somewhere else and make an impact on an NFL team this season? Langford and Bakke discuss a couple of possible destinations that will allow Sam to ignore the noise and just play and talk about football.

Continuing the NFL discussion, the guys discuss the Patriots surprising trade of Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Tim Wright as well as the future for Wes Welker after suffering his 3rd concussion in 10 months.
