Ari Rosenblum is a Jewish non-binary artist and activist living in Denver, CO. They graduated from Oberlin College in 2018 after completing a double major in Psychology and Politics. While at Oberlin, Ari was involved with several psychology research projects, including behavioral science interventions focused on pro-environmental behavior change, and an honors thesis examining the stereotypes and prejudice directed towards transgender and gender-nonconforming people. Today, Ari works as a queer youth program leader for a large mental health focused non-profit, where they offer social and educational programming and connect queer young people to mental health and sexual health resources. Based on the idea that queer and trans liberation are intrinsically tied to black liberation and the liberation of all oppressed groups, Ari tries to incorporate intersectional and anti-racist ideals into their work, art, and every day life. Outside of the office, Ari is a multi-media artist who dabbles in photography, fiber art, and digital art, among other mediums! This is a recast of a previously published episode.

The experiences, views, and opinions in this podcast reflect the intersectional identities of both the guests and the hosts. Coined by black activist and scholar Kimberle Crenshaw, intersectionality is a term used to describe how race, class, gender, and other personal identities intersect with one another and impact how individuals experience the world. When thinking about equity, we need to think beyond individual attributes, like skin color and gender, and recognize that humans often have more than one identity that is subject to discrimination or hostility. Because of this, it is important to understand that you cannot fully understand someone else’s lived experiences, but you can listen and respect people as they share their lives with you.  Ari recognizes that they are a white person with class privilege, and their views, experiences, and opinions do not represent all members of the transgender and gender-nonconforming community.
