A few years ago, I had an exciting experience. I was on a stage, speaking to a big group of people. Suddenly, an agent in the audience stood up to ask me a question. This agent was curious and wanted some advice.

The question was, “What is the one thing an agent can do today that they would be happy they did two years from now?” 

I didn’t need to think long. I quickly answered, “Build a personal brand.” Creating a special image or idea about yourself that people will remember and like. It’s like making yourself into a character in a book or a hero in a movie. People should think of you when they need help buying or selling a house because you’ve made your name synonymous with real estate. 

I recently got a chance to meet and talk with someone special, Dustin Brohm. Dustin is the creator of ‘The Massive Agent Podcast.’ His show recently went over 1M downloads! 

Dustin and I talked about his journey in this industry and how he went from someone brand new struggling to make it to a coach many agents look up to in real estate.

We dove deep into building a personal brand and what that means. This is a relationship-based business and your brand is the relationship that you are building with the market you serve. 

Dustin and I spent some talking about how to prioritize your life and something I admire about Dustin is how he puts his family first no matter what. As he admits in this episode, he’s “probably leaving money on the table” but he knows that he’ll never get the time back he’s getting now with his kids and it’s not something everyone has the strength or courage to do.

I personally think it’s admirable. 

You will have so many opportunities to grow in this business and it’s not always easy to navigate when it is or isn’t the right time to do something but Dustin’s story will teach you how to lean in and trust yourself. 

You might win some and you might lose some but in the end, you will learn and you will grow. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about making progress. If you can do that, you’ll be able to look back in the end and be proud of what you’ve built.
