**WordPress Discussion & Tips by John**

A look back and a look forward to what WordPress has been and what it will become as well as my take on the top changes coming in WordPress for 2013

What did we see from WordPress in 2012

There were some great advancements in the repository including the ability to save your favorite plugins and the ability to install all them all at once and you can also install the favorite list from others if you know their user name.

With WordPress 3.5 came some advancements in the media manager although I am not completely happy with them yet.

What happened in the world of plugins, well i noticed an increase in the use of the freemium plugin you know the plugins that offer you a free version then ask you to pay for all premium pieces. You get just enough plugin to see if it will work for you.

I also saw the launch of management services such as cms commander, these services are for people who operate 3 or more WordPress websites. what they allow is for you to have a central area where you can do all your updates and manage the websites.

I noticed more hacked websites than ever before, I pretty much knew this was going to happen, mainly because WordPress has become such a large target. Of course the bigger you are the more arrows you have to dodge just ask Microsoft.

So What will we see in 2013

I predict that we can expect some things to get drawn into the core of wordpress that are my standard plugins now such as security scanning, Google font management or an equivalent.

I expect to see more and better site protection offerings from plugin developers since wordpress is the number one platform it has become the number one target for hackers.

I expect the use of the management services for those that manage more than a couple of websites will increase dramatically.

One thing I am starting to see more of is the free plugin plus several addons to that plugin that are an additional fee such as Woocommerce and Easy Digital downloads. I expect we will see more of this in the coming year as plugin developers realize that many people out there are willing to pay for a plugin that will continue to work and be upgraded and not abandoned.

I think the responsive theme will actually start to work out properly this year.
