Rabbi Darkside and BBoy Frankie on The Manny Faces Show

August 27, 2015

The other day, Red Bull’s BC One North America Finals went down in Orlando Florida. A full house, a star studded affair, and a grand display of acrobatic ability mixed with hip hop sensibilities. The New York-area representative was BBoy Frankie, a dynamic talent out of Queens. I spoke with Frankie as he was preparing for this competition, and got to know a little about how a modern day Bboy comes to be. Dancing is Frankie’s life, for sure, and competition is important, but the spirit behind what he does is truly inspirational.

But first… He’s the first repeat guest on The Manny Faces Show, because we needed more time to get in to all the things this guy does. Rabbi Darkside is an artistic and educational renaissance man, he has released albums, toured the world, is a rapper, poet, DJ and teacher. He recently traveled to Uganda along with other American artists, as cultural ambassadors, he’s teaching a course in hip hop pedagogy at The New School… Just a ton of slightly outside the box, and really interesting stuff to talk about with this guy… We started joking around, but as you’ll see, this guy is all business.
