Autumnal but good | #13 |

September 27, 2016

Autumn is here and we are feeling a bit flat, but the workshop is busy, so all is good.
In the workshop
Jobs this week include making a fitted breakfast bar and possibly repairing an old frog. I am also quoting for a fitted cupboard, replacing a rotten door frame and childs’ bookshelf.
Lesson fro this week is buy wood rough sawn not PAR (Planned All Round) or maybe you know it as just nice a smooth and square stuff. The difference is price is incredible, I had this fact really highlighted for me this week by one of the big DIY warehouse stores.
I am thinking about which tools I need to do the jobs I am quoting on, a planer / thicknesser / jointer is now top of the list. I think a secondhand Dewalt 1150 is a reasonable trade off on price and quality without being too big.
Being Dad
Being back at school is taking its toll on my three, they have started to get colds, rashes and scrapes because they are tired. So the paediatric first aid course and first aid kit is coming in handy this week!
Also homework seems to be coming thick and fast. Does it really benefit the children to do homework or should they be allowed downtime at home? What is the point of homework?
Getting Outdoors
I got the chance to run up Haytor, a Tor on Dartmoor, last week. it was beautiful and recharging for my soul. The autumn is great because of the bounty of fruit and veg now occurring, but pruning is looming. I will update on pruning equipment in the coming weeks.
Exeter Blogging meet up.
I am going tonight, so hopefully I will see some of you there. Thanks to Clio of Diary of a Devon mum for pointing it out to me. I will report back.
Thats it, now go get some wood!
