A Trek of the Clones is a podcast series where we compare and contrast Star Trek to Star Wars.
I admit, matching a Star Trek movie and/or episode to The Last Jedi was difficult, certainly far more difficult than any other paring we've done in this series.  We settled on Star Trek Picard because of the divisive nature of the Picard series, mixed with the experience of seeing our beloved franchise icon at a later more cynical stage in life.
I wish I had more positive things to say about Picard, but this series was a disappointment.  We will get into it during the podcast, but I am at a loss as to how you could make a spin off of The Next Generation and aspire to suck all of the joy out of that series.  Star Trek Picard is not a pleasurable viewing.  Whereas The Force Awakens probably tries too hard to re-capture the feel of the original Star Wars, this show tries too hard to subvert everything we love about TNG.  I hope future writers take care to not use darkness in the place of substance, or think torture porn and revenge plot lines count as superior character studies.
