My special guest in this episode is Photojournalist and Author, Mark Erickson. Mark recently released a photobook entitled, Other Streets: Scenes from a Life in Vietnam not Lived.

Mark and I speak on several topics including his education at Harvard, his visit to Vietnam in 1993, and how he observed ordinary Vietnamese people doing ordinary things in his photography.

Upon connecting with Mark on IG, I was immediately drawn to his black and white photos of Vietnamese people in the simplest moments of socializing, laughter, and pondering. I often see myself in his photographs which is an unfamiliar feeling. Perhaps it's my limited exposure to a multi-faceted Asian representation in American media.

Mark's work and life story is truly inspirational and I'm very excited to share this conversation with you.
