Starting out I have a plugin that I have yet to use but felt you would want to know it exists. Keep in mind the ratings are based off the descriptions on their site and using their demo if available.
WordPress File Upload (freemium)

The Lowdown:
If you are inn need of a solution to allow file uploads for your clients this may be an excellent solution for you. I would be careful of allowing it to be used by guests as it opens a way for malicious files to be uploaded.
It is pretty easy to use and  you can determine which role can upload files, set the form via a short code on a page. You can add custom fields to clooect additional data with the file.
This is the freemium version and lacks a few good features such as unlimited files size, the ability to upload to, Dropbox, Google Drive and one drive. It also limits to one file at a time.
Overall not looking too bad.
