Diversity in the High Tech Industry with CompTIA researchers Carolyn April and Seth Robinson

In this episode of the AWIT TechCast from CompTIA’s Advancing Women in Technology Community, host Cristina Greysman talks with tech industry researchers Carolyn April and Seth Robinson about the latest diversity report from CompTIA, “Diversity in the High-Tech Industry.” This quantitative study on diversity attitudes and realities in high tech businesses yield some interesting discoveries. According to those surveyed:

* The diversity discussion is often contradictory

* The gender gap is widest when it comes to pay equity

* Hiring the most qualified candidate carries weight

“One of the biggest takeaways, when we need to talk about diversity, is the need to get beyond the numbers,” April said. Rather than fill quotas, companies need to think about what they want from their employees: innovation, a multitude of perspectives and better business overall. “Diverse organizations do better, they’re better at business. There’s study after study that shows it.”
