Episode 87 – Trailheads: a history of urban planning in Edmonton – Part 6
On this episode, Julian Faid presents the final installment of Trailheads: A History of Urban Planning in Edmonton.
We’ve covered a lot of ground in this series. We’ve looked at the pre-fort and post fort history Edmonton. How WWII influenced urban design decisions. How the personal vehicle has guided the way we prioritize our streets. How public transit shapes our city. And the challenges that come with designing an urban environment in an place that faces some of the longest winters in the world.
In the sixth part of this special series, Julian is joined by Andrew Knack, City Councillor for Ward 1, and Kalen Anderson the former director of the City Plan of Edmonton. Together they will look at the City of Edmonton’s New City Plan, which was approved by city council in December 2020.
Now that we know the history of how we got the city we have today, it’s time to look to the future. What is the city planning to do to address the issues we’ve raised in Trailheads? What might Edmonton look like in the next 50-100 years?
We hope you enjoy!
