Full Spectrum Cycling #59 – A Chat With Chris Wiggins from The Psychic Derailleur Bike Shop

May 08, 2020

Our guest this week is Chris Wiggins from The Psychic Derailleur in Indianapolis, IN. Join Sven, JK and Tony from the Everyday Cycles Riverwest Studio as we discuss wide ranging topics from bikes and bike shops to The Mandalorian and even a bit about jug bands!

Last weekend was another beautiful one. Did a couple of rides to Jones Island scouting for possible Urban Jungle Cross courses.

* National Camp-in* Ride from the shop* Gear* Big Sexy on the road again* Map – call next week?* The 10th Anniversary of National Park Trust’s Kids to Parks Day Goes Digital on Saturday, May 16, 2020 as ‘Parks to Kids Day’ https://kidstoparks.parktrust.org –  #ParksToKids* Specialized has laid off 7% of its workforce as the company reassesses its economic position in the wake of COVID-19’s impact on the world cycling market.* Jessica’s Crust Bombora – https://www.crustbikes.com/products/bombora/

The highlight of Sven’s weekend was bikepacking in the backyard with son, Garrett, to participate in the Scouting National Camp-in!

It wasn’t a long trip from the shop to the house but it gave me a chance to load up the rig and see how things packed with a few new additions to the setup including the bike pacing version of the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 and, hidden in the panniers, a Nemo Siren quilt.

Show Beer

* Dogfish Head – Milon, DE – American Beauty Hazy Ripple IPA – An unfiltered IPA bursting with juicy citrus notes.* Quite the story! * It’s been a long strange trip, and we’re not about to stop now. After six years and four releases of American Beauty, we’re back with an encore … only this time you haven’t heard the melody.

Together with the Grateful Dead, we’re proud to introduce our latest collaborative iteration – American Beauty Hazy Ripple IPA.

Inspired by the Grateful Dead’s beloved “American Beauty” album, American Beauty Hazy Ripple IPA is an unfiltered India Pale Ale brewed with spelt – an ancient heirloom grain that contributes a natural haze – that’s then dosed with a special yeast variety to accentuate hop aromatics.

The result is a psychedelic 7.0% ABV ale that’s bursting with notes of tropical fruit and juicy citrus, while the style callout lovingly references the fan-favorite track “Ripple.”

* 7% ABV* 35 IBU
