Restoring the Soul

[Ps 23:3; Rom 12:1-2]

Ps 23:3 (NKJV) –He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Rom 12:1-2 (NKJV) –[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service. [2] And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Writing to born-again, Spirit-filled Christians, Paul tells them to do something with their bodies and their minds. Man’s spirit is born again at the New Birth, but he still has the same body and the same soul. He is to present his body to God, and he is responsible for his mind to be renewed.

The Hebrew word translated “restore” in Psalm 23 and the Greek word translated “renewing” in Romans 12:2 have pretty much the same meaning. An example would be a valuable antique piece of furniture which looks like a piece of trash, can be restored. After restoration, it is the same piece of furniture, but it has been renewed and has become useful and beautiful.

Your spirit is never renewed; it is born again, or recreated. If you are in Christ, you are a “new creature” (2 Cor.5:17). But your soul is restored when your mind becomes renewed with the Word of God.

One great need of the church today is for believers to have their minds renewed with the Word of God. It is the Word of God that restores the soul, renews souls, and saves souls!

My Profession:

I am a brand new creature in Christ Jesus! But I see to it daily, that my mind is renewed with the Word of God. Therefore, I am NOT conformed to this world. My mind is renewed to think like God thinks. I have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor. 2:16)

God bless you my friend,
