Listen as Robin shares her artist journey through her mother’s own peasant journey artwork and a self portrait.

Though her mother wasn’t a good mom, she gave Robin the greatest gift of all … that of becoming an artist herself. Her mother’s own desire and determination to get away from her dirt poor roots and become an artist lead her to the Art Student’s League first in Chicago and then to NYC… ultimately leading her to a successful career as an illustrator with Sterns Brothers.

Robin’s own work, Self portrait with trees… shows her love of trees, who have been healing for her since she was young. There’s a grouping of trees near her home that she calls fairy woods. She wanted the trees be magical, so she used glitter paint on all the trees.

She feels blessed that her Mom, who came from nothing, introduced her to art at a very early age. Her identical twin sister is also an artist. She walked away with this amazing gift of being an artist for her whole life.

Sadly Robin passed away soon after this recording from Jan 31, 2022. Her twin sister has given me permission to share this story. Thank you Leslie.

It was an honor and pleasure to have Robin as a friend and personal historian colleague for many years. Her eye, art and loving presence will be missed.
