Mevo Start

At CES 2020, I met up with the folks at Mevo. The company has been through some changes, as CEO Max Haot bought back the camera in April, 2019. Their newest offering is the Mevo Start. I sit with Nathan from Mevo to talk about the camera, and all it can do.

About the Mevo Start

This is a 1080p camera with the same functionality as their Mevo Plus. You can connect the Start to a mobile device (Android, iOS) and livestream, or record an event.

The Start adds more audio features, with a 3.5mm input. You can use that for a microphone, or go through the USB for sound. A Mevo Mic app is also available for remote sound capture.

The Mevo Start is only 3 inches tall, so you can set it up and put it away fairly quick. The camera has a tripod mount built-in for whatever tripod you use.

The 802.11ac MIMO WIFI with dual antennas built in will allow you to connect to your phone, and a Wifi source. Additional accessories will include a POE wired connection, which will be available later this year.

The Start will stream to Facebook, Periscope, Vimeo/Livestream, YouTube, or any RTMP (or RTMPS) source. When it’s actively recording, the built-in Tally light will indicate such.

A new version of the App is expected later this year, so you can connect up to 5 Mevo Start cameras to your compatible mobile device.

Mevo Start is in Pre-order for $299, and plans to start shipping in April.
