This week on The Art of Art Business we had special guests collage artists Elise Margolis and Hope Kroll. Join Trigonal Gallery owner Jonathan Edward Goodman and Curator Morgan Jesse Lappin for a deep-dive conversation about the business of art from the artists themselves.  We are very fortunate to have Elise Margolis and Hope Kroll on the show today. Elise studied with the artist, Hananiah Harari, who in the 1940s, along with painting, did collage.  His was a mix of representational and whimsical elements forming his unique collage work.  Through him she learnt that abstract is the way for her to express her thoughts. She is inspired by the work of Stuart Davis.  Elise’s work about finding solutions, — making order and creating unity. Whether it is studying relationships to answer questions or playing with shapes to create a design, Elise’s purpose is to ultimately make a piece that is visually interesting and thought provoking.  And we have Hope Kroll. Hope's work explores the nature of the heart and mind in a way that is playful and yet insightful. Calling up tenderness as well as terror and equal parts of rapture and repulsion. Kroll’s work tirelessly seeks out the honey of wisdom through the masterful arrangement of images from old encyclopedias, medical texts, children’s books, popular science, technical manuals, paper dolls and antique photographs.  Her use of a 3-D technique gives her paper constructions a surprising presence. A fusion of poetic Surrealism and scientific paraphernalia, many of Kroll’s miniature works have intricately cut out illustrations all the way down to the individual hairs and blood vessels.
